Top Home Design Trends in 2025
It’s the start of the new year and that means everyone is talking about their ‘ins and outs’ for 2025. Some things I often hear are “But aren’t ‘home design trends’ just another way for companies to make you spend your money?” Perhaps! However, they can also be interesting to look through as a sign of the times and a reflection of how society and culture are feeling at that point in time. And at the very least, they can give you an idea for your house design that you might not have considered or seen before. So what are the top home design trends in 2025?
Dark Timber Accents

We are seeing a lot more exposed beams with dark timber as opposed to the classic all white ceilings. Gone are the all-white ceilings and instead they are being replaced with a more natural exposed timber look. This can be a great way to give homage to the original elements of the house if you are renovating an older house. If you are looking for less permanent ways to incorporate dark timber accents you could opt for dark stained timber furniture such as dining tables or stools.
Darker Moodier Kitchens
Darker moodier kitchens also seem to be making a comeback this year. Again, dark timber accents and darker coloured cabinetry can bring more character into the room if executed well. I will say though that I think this trend is a lot easier to pull off in sectioned off rooms rather than houses that follow more of an open plan living design.
More personal touches, less furniture show room
With all that being said, one of the most exciting trends I am seeing is the transition to less of a ‘staged home’ look to one that is more personalized and unique to the inhabitants of the house. This does not necessarily mean cluttering the space with ‘junk’. Instead it is being intentional with placement of personal objects that hold meaning to you. As is often said- ‘a clean space is a clean mind’ and one can still have a neat, tidy space that has personal touches and this is going to prevent your home looking like a furniture show room.

Now the point of discussing incoming trends is not to feel bad about your recently renovated kitchen that you did all white and bright (which I don’t believe ever goes out of style!). There are definitely ways that you can incorporate some of these trends in more of a cosmetic affordable way (if you wish to do so). For example you could try updating some of your display kitchen appliances and/or decor to ones that are darker and moodier. This can bring some of the elements of these upcoming trends into your house without having to go through a whole house remodel!
Remember, trends are a way to get inspiration but at the end of the day you are still the one that has to live in it! There is no point incorporating these trends into your home if they do not suit you and your family. Are there other upcoming trends that you are seeing popping up this year?
